I likewise am tired of dealing with lesbians at ACT. AIDS is overwhelmingly a disease of gay men but we are overrun with lesbians. How disrespectful! Fuck you and your “I’m just here to help” patronizing! Fuck you and your questions about my sexual practises and drug use, lesbo!

Tranny says: Just hand over the funding for projects, trans surgery etc. but don’t dare to study us. Just give us welfare. What an odd turnaround from whining about being ignored ten years ago.

Glad that you’ve got the enemy in your sights. And it’s those helpful, left-wing diverse and tolerant PhD or Masters students who are out to oppress you with their eagerness and social work. Well spotted. Meanwhile, the capitalist barons escape unscathed.

You know what? Get your own movement and stop piggybacking off the gay and lesbian one. You are always bitching like the little bitches you are.

Anne’s post is an inspiration for me. I’ve been involved with gay lib since 1971 and have had more requests for student interviews and requests for participation in some student’s study than I can count or remember. In the last few years, I’ve become quite annoyed by some student’s lack of preparedness. Some will do, or try to do an interview with a live queer as a substitute, instead of doing their own research.

Our LGBT movement has been around for over 40 years in Canada. Books have been written about us and our movement and so our history and litterrature is out there and available. There are over 200 listings in Resources on the Queer Ontario Think Tank site (this site). Before agreeing to another interview or study, I will consider Anne’s inspiring and frank narrative.

I also must reply to Nadine’s comments, some of which I find offensive. Unlike Nadine, I am delighted and appreciative that many lesbians have been so deeply involved with the AIDS movement, right from the beginning of this ever-present crisis. Back around 1989 and 1990, when many gay men were burnout cases both due to caregiving and due to grieving our mass losses of gay men, our friends and our lovers, our lesbian friends were there. And many have developed expertise and remained committed to this cause and to PHA’s over the long term. The lesbian community deserves our full respect and our profound thanks.

Further, Nadine is also mistaken to say transexuals have been “piggybacking off the gay and lesbian” movement. Transexsuals have always been a part of our community, the LGBT community, since Stonewall and before. They were there right from the beginning. Long ago, I was proud to assist to provide physical space and welcomed transexuals to any social space we could share in my community. And I am proud of Queer Ontario’s participation in the recent successful fight for transexsual human rights protection in this province. Side by side, we finally won that struggle. Transexuals form an integral part of our culture. Get used to it.

errr uhmm wellll . Correlation does not imply caosatiun? I wasn’t an English major, but I’m certain the author has pulled some sort of logical fallacy.I wouldn’t say there isn’t an increase of apolitical queers. But I wouldn’t say the increase of apolitical queers has anything to do with lesbian fans of Justin Bieber. It’s just that more queers are able to be out now without it being political.Lichtman makes it sound as though we chose to be hyper-obsessed with politics and now young lesbians are choosing not to be. Actually, we didn’t have the option until recently. So, maybe it should’ve been an article about how awesome it is that being political isn’t compulsory anymore due to all the great political achievements of the queer community instead of article that is hyper-obsessed with a teenage boy.(I analyze everything. to. death. everywhere!) 0

Anne Tagonist’s anger is well justified. The trans community has been treated as guinea pigs by researchers for far too long. This is an issue for gays, lesbians and bisexuals too. As a bisexual I am tired of studies trying to establish whether bisexual men exist, whether bi women are really just lesbians in training, or (most recently) whether all women in the world are actually bisexual (which kind of undercuts the point that some of us actually identify that way and have been out as such for decades).

Speaking as a queer researchers, we need research run by our communities, for our communities. But we need to be the ones setting the research agenda. Maybe we should start studying straights for a change, and try to answer some of our questions about them. Why are they so phobic? Can it be sured? Are some bigots genetically predisposed? Let them put us through grad school. Having a queer funding source would make a big difference.

Without data to prove we’re actually suffering, it’s hard to get political changes made. No one wants to take our word. Unless, of course people start actually getting involved in social organizing and put some pressure on the politicians. Historically, that’s worked wonders.

When I was a teenager (Like way back in my day. ugh. But I can’t be that old since Difranco is 6 years older than me holy crap she’s trinung 40.) Anyway, when I was a teenage baby butch, lots of butch dykes emulated Lloyd Dobler as played by John Cusack in Say Anything or Kurt Cobain while still liking Ani Difranco. While I loved, loved, LOVED Ani Difranco, she didn’t look like me. To be frank, I wanted to do her, not be her. I mean, I would hang on every word she sang. But it’s not the same.I was very political, but emotionally, or maybe just sexually, I was more like an adolescent boy. And my baby butch friends agreed we had more of a brotherly bond than a sisterly one. So, we tended to emulate boys, but maybe boys were more political in the 90s. Either way I don’t think, butch dykes emulating boys is a sign of being less political. 0

People talk a lot about how leisbans look line Justin Bieber, or Justin Bieber looks like leisbans. But no-one ever mentions that he sounds like one.The first time I heard one of his songs on the radio, I did a double-take is that a GIRL singing about liking another GIRL?!The second time I heard one of his songs on the radio, I also did a double-take, because my short-term memory isn’t so great these days.Anyway, there’s about 6 or 7 billion people out there in the world, having trillions of thoughts, so someone out there has got to be thinking the same thing. And what if that person isn’t a fully-formed (if only) dyke such as myself, but a teenage larval lesbian, for whom the plaintive cries for female affection by such a feminine voice subconsciously queer the chrysalis of their sexuality, until one day they emerge and flutter off to the gay butterfly disco?I mean, I think if that happened it would vindicate everything. 0
